BELGIUM AND FRANCHISE

On the internet you will find information about the how and why of franchising. In Belgium franchising has always remained somewhat underdeveloped. This may have something to do with our three languages, with the corresponding cultural differences, with the small scale of our country and probably also (especially for Flemings) with the mentality of ‘what you do yourself, you do better’.
Franchising means that you share knowledge and costs, and that you are prepared to share profits. Other countries have traditionally been better adapted to this, but we believe that new times are also coming in Belgium and that franchising therefore offers opportunities to people with entrepreneurial spirit. In our neighbouring countries, in Southern Europe or in America, this form of distribution is five to ten times more prevalent in the market than in our home country.

WHERE DOES FRANCHISEE COME FROM?

We have our own experience in setting up new businesses, internationally oriented, and we also worked from within the organization of a franchisor.

We have our own experience in setting up new businesses, internationally oriented, and we also worked from within the organization of a franchisor. We know the franchisor’s business from practice, as we once started a new franchise concept ourselves, including the recruitment of franchisees. This fact, in combination with our selection activity under JongeRaven/SterkeRaven/WijzeRaven, made it quite logical that we also entered the void that exists in the domain of recruiting franchisees.

CREATING VALUE WITH FRANCHISE

A not inconsiderable advantage of being part of a strong franchise network is the resale value: a good point of sale is sought after and worth money, and that is usually less or not the case with a sole proprietorship with no regional or (inter)national appeal.

The investment required to join a franchise formula is highly variable. This can start from € 7,500, – own contribution, but could just as well amount to a hundred times as much as this, so to speak. You understand that investing in an ice cream parlour or in a coffee shop is of a different size than a supermarket or hotel, for example.

ONE STOP SHOP FOR FRANCHISEES

Franchisee has been a member of the Dutch FranchiseFormules.nl Adviestak and also of the Belgian Franchise Federation for a number of years, making it the ideal partner to bring candidate franchisees in touch with national or international formulas.
Franchisee has been a member of the Dutch FranchiseFormules.nl Adviestak and also of the Belgian Franchise Federation for a number of years, making it the ideal partner to bring candidate franchisees in touch with national or international formulas.
We keep in touch with multiple formulas that want to expand their network or have franchise business to take over. These are not solely Belgian or Dutch but also multiple foreign formulas that may or may not already be active on our market.
That’s what Franchisee is offering you: a one-stop shop for all franchise information, with personal advice. It is therefore important that we get to know your candidature and interests well, and from that point of view we will guide you in the direction of the formula(s) that are best suited to you.

OPPORTUNITIES

Franchise opportunities thus exist in many different areas. Many of them are retail or consumer-oriented, but there also are franchises for the B2B or industrial market. These can be products, services or concepts that are sold. We have all the necessary information about these formulas, from known as well as less known formulas, from Belgian as well as foreign, and we can therefore accurately inform and orient you.
Think of the following (but not exclusively) sectors:

FOR THE FRANCHISEE

As a franchisee you step into the concept of someone else (the franchisor) and that has its advantages, such as
– You no longer need to invent the wheel yourself
– You participate in a proven business model (if another can make money with it, I can do the same)
– You will receive support in all kinds of areas (furnishing, marketing, product range, purchasing, logistics, IT, etc.).
– You receive reports on your figures and you can compare them with your colleagues in the network.
– You remain 100% responsible for the success of your business, because sales and marketing are the key things you have to do yourself.
On the other hand, you also need to let the franchisor live and allow him to earn something behind your efforts (usually in the form of royalties). You should find it OK to operate a part in team spirit (network) and you should be prepared to give up a piece of ‘your own freedom’ in the interest of the common goal (= create a network of distribution points that is as successful as possible). The stronger and bigger the whole becomes, the better for you.
We can always assist you in the selection of an appropriate franchise formula. We do this in a number of steps. In a first stage, we start with an introductory orientation interview, during which we immediately move towards a shortlist of possibly suitable formulas. In second instance, we will assist you in further exploring and researching these formulas, and at the same time we will further screen your own file. All this with the aim of eventually reaching the contract phase together with the formula that suits you.
Everything is relative but overall the answer is yes.
Look at it like this: first you need to know what you want to do. For many, this is not so obvious in itself, and in that sense it is useful to get into an existing story.
If you enter a pilot project (you are one of the first) then you usually have more room for negotiation (but not always) as the concept still has to prove itself in your own country and the risk is a little higher.
If there are already several operational branches, the franchisor will be able to give you access to the figures and you can also ask existing franchisees about the formula and check with them. And of course you don’t have this if you start something from scratch on your own.
A franchisor also has developed and tested his concept, and undoubtedly paid a ‘learning fee’ for this: as a franchisee you don’t have that element either. Because the franchisor will provide you with all his knowledge and know-how, the do’s and don’ts in operating the business. He will give you advice on numerous matters, and can also offer you support in areas such as financial, legal, administrative, HR, etc…
Note one thing: a franchisor does not benefit from your business not running well, he will therefore carefully select and do everything to assist you and make it a success.
The answer to this is, of course, very personal, because when is it good for someone? The underlying question is usually whether the franchisor will not run with too much of the (by your sales efforts earned) money.
In a distant past, when legislation was even more lax and ethical standards in business were not what they are today, that was certainly the case more than once. But today, such practise is a long way off. The franchise federations (which carry out quality control), but also the legislator and even more so the social media have ensured that a balanced relationship has been created between the franchisor and the franchisee.
What you can make depends on the sector, and may also be related to the size of your investment and corresponding responsibility. If a single activity or a 20-man business is being run, the potential of earning may vary.
Last but not least, being part of a franchise usually makes it a lot easier -as soon as you think the time is ripe- to leave your business for a good price (in many cases the franchisor himself provides a formula for this contractually) and thus to insure you a guaranteed pension.

FOR THE FRANCHISOR

With our JongeRaven/SterkeRaven/WijzeRaven concepts, we continuously screen and recruit strong commercial talent. Entrepreneurial spirit is the common thread, and among the Wise Ravens (= self-employed) there are people who are also interested in franchising. More than that, many candidates (especially in Belgium) do not have franchise on the radar when looking for an independent activity. We can therefore respond to this and draw on a keg other than websites that only do lead generation.
From our practical experience in franchising we know how important (and difficult) it is to find good franchisees. Franchisee is not a lead generator but a selection agency. We select and screen, question and orient the candidate in the direction of the most suitable opportunity in function of interests, capacities, budget, etc.
In this way we introduce to you a qualified candidate (= with the necessary preliminary information and real interest in your formula, including interview and test report).
This saves you as a franchisor a lot of time. We can also screen candidates that approach you directly. This is particularly useful for foreign concepts, and also saves you time and costs.
We speak several languages and are familiar with many cultures from our commercial past, which facilitates mutual communication. We are willing to collaborate on an exclusive as well as non-exclusive manner.
We are also an independent member of the Belgian Franchise Federation, and therefore prefer to work with formulas that take their franchisees seriously.
You can make your formula known in the continuous logo bar further on this website. For this you pay a fixed price per year. However, if we can present your formula to our franchisees, it is free.
Moreover, the selection fee we apply is spread over time. On the one hand, we charge a (modest) contribution per proposed candidate with whom you organise an introductory interview. These amounts are deducted from the selection fee, which is only calculated once you contract your franchisee (and once he has paid his entry fee). The amount of the selection fee depends on the formula and varies depending on whether we work exclusively or not for you.
Feel free to inquire for a concrete proposal tailored to your needs.
If you can appreciate the added value of our way of working, please register via the registration form below. Of course, you can also give us a call or send us an e-mail (LinkedIn also works well for this).
We will be happy to send you our concrete proposal. And once a mutual agreement has been reached, we will happily pick a date to get to know you and to get to grips with your formula. This way we can fully inform candidates about your concept, feel who fits into the concept, and thus work efficiently, to all parties’ satisfaction.
